iPhone 3GS won't charge, even after replacing the battery

My iPhone 3Gs stopped working (i could not charge it anymore) so I replaced the battery. My iPhone 3Gs then worked correctly during the day. When I woke up in the morning the battery was dead again so I tried to charge it. It wouldn't charge again.

What part do I need to replace to let me iPhone 3Gs charge again? Thanks

Update

i have a lot of iphones and used all the cords, it gets charged when the power is on. However, when the battery runs out, i cant charge it anymore. itunes does recognize the iphone.

When the battery runs out, i put the battery in another 3GS and charge it then put it back. I replaced the battery and the dock connector but with no luck.

Update 2

I just applied the fix pollytintop gave me and after letting the battery die i tried recharging it, after 30mins the phone started again! Thanks Pollytintop!

C Ata just wondering if this was still a problem or if you got it fixed?

Have you tried changing charging cords?

Does itunes recognize it? Possibly you have a damaged dock connector, or the #4 ribbon came loose.

sounds like the fuse near the battery connection or it could be a break in the continuity of wiring near battery connection-this is easily damaged by people trying to pull motherboard out with screw under do not remove sticker still in or otherwise applying too much force to remove.

how handy are you at soldering? you could try a very very fine wire to solder across the fuse or make a jump of solder

I haven't seen this type of repair before. I'd do it pro-bono if anyone wants so I can have it written up on my blog. It'd be a great addition! I love this microsoldering stuff. Thanks Polly.

There is plenty more where this is coming from, one smart iFixer :-)Relative easy fix even for the DIY'er if one is willing to go that route.

Have you guys also checked my other question?

you check for continuity. Place a probe on either end and use your multimeter to see if it has continuity. If it does it is good, if it does not , either replace it (smart choice) or just bridge it (could cause further problems)

I had this problem too. Bought a replacement off eBay that said it was compatible. Got in in (what a delicate process!) and it seemed fine. Sold the phone to my cousin and he let it die. Wouldn't come back on, either charging from a brick or from PC. I played with it and discovered that, while it does it's little 'I can't charge' deal by showing the red battery state, trying to boot and failing, you can trick it into charging back up enough to boot and after it boots it will take a charge from PC.

When the apple logo comes up like its booting, put it into recovery mode as if you were about to jailbreak. Leave it there! Leave it for about half an hour. It is actually charging in this mode. Then, download TinyUmbrella and kick it out of recovery mode.

This worked for me on a newer boot rom 3GS. Google for info on TinyUmbrella if you don't know how to use it. It's very simple.
