I have a 2003 dodge 2500. The key will not turn the ignition. To remove the lock barrel assembly, you must turn the key on so that you can press up on a tab inside. If you can't get the key to turn on, how do you pushup on the tab to remove the assembly?. The truck is sitting inoperable in the driveway now and I can't take it to a locksmith even if I could afford it. Any Ideas?

@bigbart ,M. Williamson, The locksmith will come to you if needed and may save you a lot of time and aggravation. Tumblers will be stuck probably, you can try hitting the key sharply with a mallet on the end while key is installed in ignition, as in video links below to get tumblers to drop and enable you to turn the key.
