I have a powerbook 15"1.67 GHz High-Rez that will freeze very soon after or during start up.
I have heard static noise from the speakers just before it freezes up. I have made it thru start up and log in before it freezes and other times it freezes before or during launch. I have not been able to boot from the start up disk, it takes to long and the mac locks up before boot.

Try starting from just one RAM chip and reseating your RAM.

Just tried your sugestion of one chip then the other still no luck. I can get it to boot but it freezes up in in a minute or two.
Sometimes it will not even boot. I will hear a static noise and it will freeze.
Try starting it in target mode using another Mac or starting up from a known good external disk drive. Try starting holding down the "shift key". There are to many variables to give you a clear cut answer.
Target mode froze up after a minute and not able to boot from an external drive.
Now it will not boot at all.
Remove the hard drive and try starting from the CD with your system installation disk. Has anyone been into the machine? How hot is the bottom getting?
