2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo - Reset procedure for anti theft

It starts runs rough for about three seconds then shuts off..What is the procedure to reset the anti theft control..

How do you rest the alarm system .....the Jeep Cherokee 00 won't even start... I have 2 keys,2 phobs . I have some weird programming issues with unlock, programmable drivers seat...ect. HELP !!!

I have a 1997 grand jeep Cherokee Laredo. Locked itself. Now keys wont unlock doors. . Starts then shuts down..Told it was security system.

Use only a Jeep key made by Jeep. It appears the official jeep key enables the security system when you insert it into the 'key hole'. Notes: If you see an intermittent problem like this, consider getting OEM (original equip. mfg., i.s, jeep) key. You can give your VIN number to the dealer to have one made.

Insert your key and turn the drivers side door lock to the right , then left and then right again ...this will reset the security system.

I have. A jeep 2000 grand cherokee Laredo I don't have the automatic pushbutton just the key want disarm the theft cause we only have one

This helped, but was not the exact answer for my 2000 Grand Cherokee. I needed to have one key in the ignition at the on position and then with the 2nd key turn the door lock right-left-right and that did the trick. Thanks for the good suggestion, had already tried other costly items, new battery, fuel filter, fuel pressure test.

I got the same problem it starts and runs 3 to 5 seconds I tired everything what else can I do I did the door key trick and nothing undid battery and rebooked and same

I was working on my 97 jeep Cherokee and crossed a starter wire in my ignition, u could hear the starter grinding before I disconnected the wire. Now my jeep won't start at

All. Just turns over like out of gas or no spark. What could be affected during this fatal mistake.?

What was the issue, was issue fixed and how? Mines doing almost same thing...will turn over but not start, like not firing or fuel pump, key symbol light is lit up on dash. I know it isn't the fuel pump or spark plugs. Thank you

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherachee Laredo 4.0 4×4.. my vindictive ex took all the keys, and the key fob. I got the key ,the key fob, and the immobilizer out a 2001 identical to mine now it will crank then shut off after 3 to 4 seconds. My question is if I get the ecu and driver door lock and security components so they recognize one another will that make it stop shutting off or will it just transfer the problem to a different anti theft component that is waiting for the original code from the missing key and fob???

I had this same issue. There is a rubber boot in the passenger side door and the power wire, which is a thick brown wire with a white stripe, is probably broken. These models made the ground wire good, but the power wire in the doors is too long, gets caught and snipped. I found a youtube video showing issue, checked mine and fixed in five minute.

Your problem is typically 1 of 2 issues, either 1. the key chip has not been programmed, or has been dumped after too many keys were added, or 2. The WCM (a small electronic device connected to your ignition switch, that has a loop that goes around the cylinder and “reads” the key) has failed, which is actually a common thing with a few models of jeeps and certain models actually had a recall a few years ago because it was so widespread.

To help determine which problem it is, there are a few questions to ask yourself.

First, has this key ever kept the car running, or is it a freshly cut copy. If it is a new copy, than you may need to take it to a dealer or locksmith along with the car to have the key programmed.

Second, if the key was a working one before, have you recently had any new keys cut and programmed? If you have gotten new keys for the car it is possible that the key got deleted during program of the new keys, either because the locksmith/dealer cleared existing keys, or because you exceeded maximum number of keys allowed by the WCM, which will delete oldest keys first as new ones are added. Most Jeeps will allow a max of usually 6 keys to be paired to the car, and some programming systems used by locksmith will clear all keys prior to programming keys, it is always best to take all existing keys with you to the locksmith or dealer if you are having a new one programmed so they can make sure they all get back in the computer at the same time, and most locksmiths and dealerships will charge the same whether they program 1 or all 6 as long as it is done at the same time.

However if neither of these scenarios apply, you likely have a bad WCM, and I would suggest first off that you check to see if there is a recall on your particular vehicle, as you may be entitled to a free repair if affected by a recall, otherwise you can either have the WCM replaced and reprogrammed, or there are some tutorials online for deleting/removing the WCM, although that is not recommend and will leave you with 1 less anti theft device, it is an option that can be done at your own risk.

When you say keyless, are you referring to push button ignition, or the newer chrysler style fobs where the end of the key fob enters a place on the dash and turns similar to a key but without the metal key blade?

If it is push button start, than in order to protect the car from theft it requires a keyfob to be present in the car so that someone can not just get into your unlocked car, press a button and drive away, in this situation it could be that either the keyfob is not programmed properly into the cars immobilizer system, the cars immobilizer system sensor that detects the presence of the keyfob is failing, or the keyfob battery is low/dead.

If it is the style that the fob plugs into the dash, similar issues can be said as a regular key but without the blade cut pattern, these types of keys still need to be programmed into the computer and still rely upon a sensor to identify the key as valid for the car.

I have 2000 g g Cherokee l it was doing fine using old key never had a fob I was doing battery swaps . multiple times trying to find good one days earlier put new brakes on it pulled out waz standing listening to the engine And it died won't crank have power T all fuses y stRtery relay is hot can I reset without a remote
