AHT Test error 4SNS/1/1/40000000:VPOR-12.614

HI

My friend spilled some water on her laptop, not a lot was able to tilt it and shut it down, but it damaged the keyboard so many keys would not work along with the power button.

I replaced the keyboard, but the power button does not work, they only way to boot is remove battery power supply and plug it back in or just leave it running. Restart works fine, option R etc.

I ran AHT through bootable USB and received this error.

Sorry, I did have the wrong codes, I took a picture but wrote the wrong thing down.

the picture is listed below..

Any ideas what this could be?

Question.

If it is the logic board, will it cause any other issues other than not being able to use the power button? I mean will this problem cause other parts of the board or computer to fail?

First we really need the know which series this system is part of. Please plug in the systems serial number here: EveryMac- Lookup. Then paste the systems URL here for us to see.

@jwhittaker - Not good this error code is related to the power subsystem on the main logic board.

So when the water got in my friends computer it damaged the logic board?

完成的

Yes, it shorted out something with in the PBUS.

As Reece stated below you'll need to review the logic board connectors and make sure there is no corrosion causing a short.

Frankly, this is not a simple DIY project as you need the skills & tools to repair the logic board (and the needed parts as needed). Best to pass this onto someone with the deeper skills

I will take a photo of the top and post, what is the cost to repair a logic board, or is it better to get a used one?

VP0R is the PBUS voltage sense enable and filter from what I understand, which doesn't make sense if it is booting fine after reconnecting the battery (and plugging in the charger presumably?). Are the fans spinning at a normal speed?

Measure voltage on 5th pin from the left of the keyboard connector, whilst pressing the power button. If it drops to under 1V temporarily, the power button is fine. If this pin is burnt or corroded, this is likely the issue and the connector will need replacing. If not, you have a more complicated issue with the logic board, and I would recommend sending it somewhere.

Clean the logic board using 95%+ isopropyl, if you haven't already.

This error is often related to a low PBUS voltage.

@danj yes, do you reckon the numbers after the VP0R code indicate the actual voltage of PPBUS_G3H? If this is the case, it is slightly high which is why it is setting off this error, but I don't think this is likely to be related to the power button issues, since it is within the norm.

@jwhittaker measure voltage for PPBUS_G3H just in case (can be done on the backlight fuse) to make sure it is not low. Try out what I mentioned before too.

@danj @reecee After the spill I replaced the keyboard and upper case because the power button and many of the keys were not working. After replacing the upper case and keyboard all keys are working except the power button. The only way I can boot it if I shut down is to pull battery cable for a few seconds plug it back in then attach the power cable... soon as I attach the power cable it boots...

@jwhittaker the Core i5/i7 models all should boot when the charger is connected and the battery is disconnected, either when the battery is reconnected or left disconnected, so this is normal.

If you don't have the equipment or tools, I would strongly recommend sending it to a good 3rd party repair shop, who repairs the logic board. Logic board repairs can get complex depending on the fault, so you need to have a basic understanding of how the circuits work.

Thank you @reecee just may have to do that... was looking for other options on used parts as my friend is disabled and does not have a lot of money... I offered to replace the keyboard for her. I have the ability to replace or repair anything, just don't have the equipment or knowledge to repair a logic board.

Thank you for all your help and advice... very much appreciated ...

Double check your error message here. I think you have a typo or two as I don't know of any NSNS or YPOR codes.

For reference here a good writeup on how to decode the codes: How to decipher error codes in Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics and heres an Apple TN on them: Apple Diagnostics: Reference codes.

From the sounds of it your logic board got wet so there is likely some damage there. Take some good detail pictures of both sides of the logic board and past them here so we can see the discreet SMD devices (needs to be sharply focused) You'll likely need to take a few per side so we can see.
