The Xbox 7MN-0001 Wireless Controller, was manufactured by Microsoft Corporation. It is the first generation Xbox One controller released, but has since been discontinued. This controller has since been superseded by Models 1697/1698 and Model 1708. While this controller is commonly used with the Xbox One, it can also be used for PC gaming.

Is it possible to unpair these controllers?

As it stands I inherited 2 Xbox One 1537 (non 3.5mm) controllers since they both have various issues I plan on combining into one good controller for PC gaming. While I can get these fixed, I need to deal with the pairing issue since these are used controllers and were paired to a console in a previous life. The condition of them is as follows

  • 1537 date code: Recoverable with new analog sticks. Everything else works. Does not have the same issue as the 1419x controller.
  • Xbox one shipping controller (date code 1419x); parts only and will be supplying the analog sticks. The issue is this controller goes to the console even with a USB cable hooked up with no batteries so I am reluctant to just do a PCB swap to fix the good one.

I because the issue is caused by having different revision secondary boards where one is more ideal then the other. In this case, the 1350 controller has the more ideal board compares to the 1419x controller. From what I can tell, these boards look to be the nothing more then to handle the ABYX and up/down/left/right controls. It also lacks any discreet components that look to be related to the Wireless portion. My concern is I will carry the issue over by moving the board over rather then the analog sticks.

My first attempt to get rid of the pairing was to hook the offending controller up to a Win10 PC to update the firmware to see if I can fix the issue. It does not fix this problem nor do I see anything in the Xbox console to do it.

Is there a way to unpair a controller from the Xbox One? I have access to the console so I can get rid of the pairing if I have to do it from the console.

Update

Because I did not get a response, I chose to wing it and replace the whole board with no information on what should happen. Read my expanded answer on what I did.

The way to unpair them goes as follows:

  • Remove the batteries from the controller
  • (Optional?) Desolder the motors from the controller PCB
  • Plug the controller into a PC
  • Press the "Sync" button on the controller a few times. Make sure you are away from the original console the controller came from. You may also need to do this a couple of times for it to erase the pairing. If you did this right, the Xbox button should flash like it is pairing.

What do you mean? When you try paring to the next console it should reset to the next console. Also, plugging it into a PC will make it a wired connection, and when it is unplugged it will attempt to pair.

I need to make it forget the console it came from. I don't own a Xbone so I can't get rid of it by pairing it to a personally owned one.

I need to erase it or look at the PC adapter. I'm not buying a Xbone to make these controllers forget the original console it came from. I have reworded my unpair procedure to clear this up.

@nick you've got it right. If you plug you Xbox remote into the PC, it will forget the old console. Doesn't matter how far away your console is. Just plug it in, make sure it's connected unplug and your done. Hope this helps!

I copied the procedure for the old one minus the parts I desoldered last time (I've learned it really doesn't matter) and while it didn't blink like the old ones I'm hoping it forgets it was used with a console and I know it won't try and register with it.

Much like last time I have console access so I can verify that the console pairing is cleared.

It seems like it goes like this on the new controller (1697):

* Plug it into a PC

* Press the Sync button (like the old one, this is to make sure. It may not be required, but it's probably good to do to make sure.)

* Pairing should be forgotten.

I don't get why you want to remove the old pair data. It will forget it next time it pairs to another console.

I don't want it to connect to the old console it came from if I ever have batteries in it I forget to remove (somewhat unlikely, since I don't want them to sit unused and leak). I do not own the Xbox One Wireless Adapter to re-pair it to something else.

I have to use USB with the controller because mine is IR only, and even if I had the 1708 with Bluetooth, the implementation is proprietary and ONLY works in Windows 10. I have to use IR or USB.
