Hi,

What is the model number of your TV? It could possibly be a blown fuse on the power board, if there is one that is. If there is and it has, the problem then is to determine why it has blown.

TH-58PX60U is the model number for my TV

I have a 58 inch Viera and the power cord burned out where it connects to the back through a noise filter inside the set. One of the plug prongs in the noise filter was open. I'm expecting to replace that noise filter and regain the set operation. But looking at some caps in the power supply makes me think that might be why the noise filter opened/ over heated.

Check the power outlet to make sure your tv is getting power , If you have power try a hard reset . Pull the plug and with the power disconnected hold the power button on for 60 seconds. After at least the 60 seconds plug the tv in and try to start it. If it works great if not , hold the power button in the on position for a count of 20 with the tv plugged in . If theres still no Joy try power with one of your volume buttons at the same time . One of these should provide a hard reset for the tv. Hope this helps

Thank you very much for this tip, it fixed my paralyzed Viera when I already believed that a storm had blown the power supply. This goes to prove that you should not give up hope too easily.

When you plug it up if the light doesn't come on at the bottom of the TV then you need to open it up and change the pannel where you plug in your USB cord at. If the light does come on at the bottom then you need to open it up and change the power pannel, usually in the middle of the TV

Mine was a burned up filter where the power goes in. 25 dollar used part. Been watching it for a year now.

My problem was the filter just inside where the power cord plugs in, Something in the filter blew and the connection for one of the plug leads was open electrically. I got one off ebay and have been watching it since.

I have a Viera TX-L47WT50E that is completely dead and I suspect the noise filter. However, I don't see anything that resembles a noise filter near the power cord plug of the TV. Can you please be more specific, so I know what I should be looking for? I looked in the service manual (https://elektrotanya.com/cgi-bin/downloa...) and also the power board itself (https://spares2repair.co.uk/panasonic-tx...), but cannot seem to find it.

Hi @K Rollin,

It seems as though you may have two problems.

Remote control unit.

If possible try the test again using another known working IR remote control unit i.e. one that has an IR LED bulb at one end of the unit and check if you can detect the IR bulb turning on when you press any button, when looking at the bulb in the camera’s LCD screen. This is just to prove that you’re doing the test properly ;-)

Also make sure that you try other “less used” buttons rather than the most used ones i.e. the Power, Vol.Up/Dn, CH Up/Dn are the most commonly used and the button’s contact surface can wear out.

If the TV remote still doesn’t work it will have to be opened an inspected. It may be that it is something simple like a broken connection from the battery connectors to the circuit board etc.

If there are no screws holding the remote case together (check in battery compartment and also under any labels for recessed screws) then the case may just be held together with plastic snap clips. Use an old credit card to start prying open the case. Start where the IR LED is, if it protrudes from the middle of the “seam” as you have a bit of an opening there or try near a corner etc.

TV.

Here’s an image taken from the service manual for the TV showing the No Power Troubleshooting flowchart which is a good place to start

You will need a DMM (digital multimeter) and know how to use it to test if the fuses on the P board are OK.

Use the DMM’s Ohmmeter function to test if the fuses are OK. Do this with the power totally disconnected from the TV. The schematic of the P board is to be found on p.81 of the manual.

Also use the Ohmmeter to test the continuity of all the wires in the power cord from the pins in the plug to the other end of the cable in case it is a fractured cord.

I’m not experienced in TV set repair, but the inbuilt power supply might have a dead cap (capacitor), or even the mainboard or control board (assuming that’s what the name for the board with the buttons is) could be shorted and therefore dead. Myself, I would worry about the old school electrolytic capacitors that to the bulk of the power switching. those would blow (and i mean blow and stink) first. Just my thoughts.

I have a viera tx-p50x50b had it for some time now but when ever we have a power cut or its turned off at the plug it takes weeks before it will come back on again have tried the reset tips every time but nothing yet any suggestions appreciated

@lostandconfused it sounds like a dead psu. If you have had this TV for a while I don't wanna sound like a downer but it might be time to consider a new television. Internal Power Supplies and LCD display assemblies are some of the hardest parts to find in the TV industry. Sorry, I wish I could have saved my broken TV myself.

I have 2 Viera's. Both developed bad capacitors. You can tell by looking at the tops. They MUST be FLAT or CONCAVE. Any bulge means they need to be replaced. You can also feel and slight bulge with your fingers.

I am talking about the very large capacitors on the P board.
