Red lines on screen

Ps4 had no picture,tried booting to safe mode. Now there are red lines on the screen, static/flickering horizontal lines. Bad HDMI port? Kinda of strange that screen stays black until you try to go to safe mode. Any ideas?

Yes, you guessed right...bad HDMII. If you haven't tried replacing the HDMI cable you might try that but this is almost always a bad HDMI port.
