How do you reset?

My stove is an old Gaffer-Satler. All gas, no electrical power save for the light. We pulled it out to install a vent/hood and when we put it back, seems not enough fuel is getting to the broiler/oven. The burners light just fine. We bled the line repeatedly, took a wire brush gently to the pilot area next to the broiler element but the weak flame races around the element without truly igniting. Having a hard time finding someone to repair such an old workhorse. Any suggestions appreciated in advance.

@thecyn depends on the stove but, with an older Gaffer Sattler like mine, you reset on the stove-top, under the burners but above the oven box. Follow the thickest pipe out of the thermostat and it will lead to a junction or a box with a big red or copper button. Push it in with the pilot lit, and turn on the oven while holding it down. Voila! Just had a very kind repairman deliver that info to me while he was driving, forgoing a $200 service fee. People are still good. Hope this works for you.

I have a 30+ year old Whirlpool gas range...no igniter, uses piezoelectric start (which hasn't worked in the oven for over 15 years.) I manually light the oven pilot light and it then worked fine...until it didn't. It worked normally last Sunday morning, but the oven wouldn't heat that evening. The pilot light stays lit, but no gas is fed to the oven burner. I assume that this is a gas valve, and not a thermostat issue...am I correct in doing so? Thanks!

I have a Viking Professional. The ignition works fine but the oven does not light up, I turn it to broil and it lights up, but goes off as I bring it down to oven temperature. This happened after a cleaning session. Help and Thanks.

Cause 1

Igniter

The igniter is the most commonly defective part for a gas oven that won't turn on. The igniter has two main functions. First, the igniter draws electrical current through the oven safety valve to open it. Second, the igniter gets hot enough to glow and ignite the gas in the burner assembly. If the igniter gets weak, it will fail to open the safety valve correctly. If the valve does not open, the oven will not heat. To determine if the igniter is defective, observe the igniter when the oven is on. If the igniter glows for more than 90 seconds without igniting the gas flame, this indicates that the igniter is too weak to open the valve. If the igniter is weak, replace it. If the igniter does not glow at all, use a multimeter to test the igniter for continuity. If the igniter does not have continuity, replace it.

Cause 2

Bake or Broil Spark Electrode

For bake & broil burner ignition an oven burner spark electrode is used to ignite the gas. The electrode is a device that sits right next to the burner. It functions like a spark plug. As power is applied to it a spark jumps from the spark electrode tip to the to the electrode shield, igniting the gas. If the electrode is broken or worn out the spark may not occur. Visually inspect the electrode assembly for cracks in the porcelain housing or damage to the electrode tip itself. Be aware that a proper ground and the correct polarity of the incoming voltage to the range is necessary for the electrode control to sense the presence of a flame once the burner is ignited. If the burner goes off after ignition check for proper ground and the correct polarity at the wall outlet.

Doesn't this not apply to standing pilot ovens, like mine? A beloved old Galaxy, made by premier stoves?

Reread question.

Clearly states pilot is lit.

Stop talking about igniters, not applicable.

I have the exact same problem, but your answer is not applicable at all. I have gas, the burners work on the range top, the pilot is lit for the oven burner, but gas isn't flowing into the burner so it can't light.

Same as Adam over here.

I had the same problem and tested voltage at the solenoid. It was too low to operate it. The igniter is in series with the solenoid and the resistance was too high in the igniter to allow enough voltage to pass to operate the solenoid. I replaced the igniter and checked voltage at the solenoid. It was high enough to operate the solenoid and the oven works properly now.

I just took a little wire brush and gently cleaned off the area around the ignition rail just above the pilot light (located on the inside back lower portion of the oven). It was pretty congested and 5 minutes later my oven was working like a champ and it was back to baking my special baked brownies, LOL.. I hoped this helped

Try testing your igniter. It shows you on line how to. I am a 53 yr old woman and ordered the part and put it in myself. My oven is gas & electric. 20 yr old Roper.
