no transfer of power to 1998 ford ranger 4x4 transmission drive shaft

The clutch and slave cylinder work correctly but with the transmission in any gear there is no transfer of power to the drive shaft. The transmission seems to shift correctly thru all gears.

Byron Jessee not quite sure what you are saying. You press the clutch and place the Ranger in gear and then what? What happens when you place it in gear before starting?

Have you checked to see that your transfer case isn't in neutral. You could also have broke the output shaft in the gearbox. Are there any whining sounds coming from the trans and how do you know your clutch is still good ? Any smells? You may also want to check the linkage from the slave to the pilot bearing.

No smells. Took the rubber boot out of the bell housing and could watch the clutch engage and disengage. Plus with the truck off the floor on stands the drive shaft will turn easly with engine off and trans in any gear. Checked the transfer which is electric shift on fly in 2, 4hi and 4 low, no change in results. Also can hear gears turning in trans when shifting to all gears. I'm thinking output shafts broken.

I got the same problem. Visually inspected clutch engaging pressure plate, shifts in any gear without depressing clutch. It’s like the t case is in neutral, no noises. It happened on the freeway, idling in you couldnt shift out of gear, but when the wheels stopped the rear end gears it would shift in any gear without the clutch. Clutch feels fine and I can see it doing the job its supposed to do.
