Kernel Panic when running larger programs

Hello,

My mac has in the past to weeks started shutting down when working with larger programs. When it occurs the computer shuts down and show the information screen saying that the computer shut down randomly caused by a problem.

I have tried a lot of things to solve the problem:

- Resetting the SMC and RAM

- Run a full AHT on the system with no result

- Installed every update there is including the new El Capitan despite friends telling med not to, because of all the problems with the early version.

- Made a totally factory recovery on the machine and installed whole new programs to test if the problem was solved. No luck there.

I have read tons of sites regarding the same problem but I have not found any example matching my problem.

I'm now really desperate to find a solution that did not involve the Apple store since I am studying for the exam and I really need my programs and Mac at the moment.

Hope to find help.

Thank you,

Best regards

Kernel Panics can be caused by both hardware and software problems. My bet is that it overheating. Since you have to have it right now, I'd open it up remove the fan and clean the vent and use canned air to blow it out. Next try to run fewer programs at the same time and avoid videos. Start up in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key on start up. Check in Preferences > Users > Startup items and turn off any un-nessesary ones. If you are a college student go to your campus student site and see if they are giving away (or providing) free anti-virus software, get it, usually Symantecs Endpoint protection. Run it. If your problem persists, save often, have an external Time Machine Backup of your hard drive. Do not use your machine sitting in bed on a pillow - give it some air. Come back after your exams and study hard until the night before the exam. That night take it easy, don't cram and burn your brain out. Go to a movie, if you don't know it by now, cramming won't help.

Hello Mayer,

Thank you for your answer.

The problem is very strange because I can easily work on the computer a whole day in lots of different programs with no problem. But when I for example open a videogame the whole thing shuts down after a few minuts.

I do expect that it could be a problem with the fans because they doesn't seem to regulate themselves. Have you heard of a problem like that before?

Best regards
