Won't boot up - shows Apple logo and 'busy' circle only?

Cannot open computer - screen lights on power-up, but only displays Apple logo and rotating busy signal and stays locked on that - it does not get to the blue screen system upload or password pages

Your system may be corrupted or your hard drive failing.

Try starting up from your system installation disk. Insert the disk and restart holding down the "C" key. Go to the second page pull down menu to Utilities, Disk Utility and see if you can repair your hard drive.
