Blade SSD replacement with a standard SSD thin model possible?

For those of you who've worked with this model, I'm sure it has at least crossed your mind... the space provided for the blade SSD (and its carrier adapter) is by far large enough for a standard thin SSD (like a Samsung EVO, 840 Pro, etc). Has anyone tried to alter the adapter carrier and replace the Blade SSD with a standard SSD? If not, any ideas on adapting the SSD cable to a standard drive 2.5" SSD?

Thanks!

thanks Mayer! lol. I'll let ifixit keep the funds they would've spent for that and reinvest with continued expansion of their teardown efforts :)

The problem is not space, it's proprietary technology. OWC offers the only solutions I know of and they're usually a year and and half behind.

Good to see you back around here!

yeah, I know it's proprietary... I just wondered if any hardware fanatics had tooled around with modifying the housing cartidge and cable so that it could accept a sata connection or adapter that would fit into the cartridge's port. I'm betting you could. But that's fabrication, and I'm only just getting into that. Not talented by any measure. LOL.

And thanks Mayer, it's good to be back. Just get distracted with the chaos of my client load. I'm also starting up a non-profit that takes in broken macs as a donation and will disperse the repaired macs (repair parts paid for with donations from the community, etc.) to approved applicants that are disadvantaged (like inner city schools/families/kids). Just getting off the ground tho. Finding time for it has proven difficult.
