BSOD - Which part to replace?

Hi ifixit users!

My macbook pro 13-inch mid 2009 is suffering from a black screen of death. When turned on, sound controllers react as usual. Start-up sound is all right. Harddrive is fine. But the display won't show any signs of being alive.

At the beginning I was able to connect the MBP to an external display, but soon it started showing just an orange screen and the completely lacked output.

I appreciate all the ifixit-guides, but my big issue is that I don't know which part to replace to fix this issue.

Is it the logic board that needs a replace or is the graphic card? Or a third?

Sorry for bad spelling, and greetings from Denmark! :-)

The macbook pro has onboard gpu. There are options but you will have to get your hands dirty. Option one is to reflow the gpu on the logicboard. This can be achieved with a heat gun and patients. If you are unfamiliar with reflow i encourage you to check out the playstation yellow light of death fix guide and that method can be applied here too. Not a 100 percent fix but worth a try. Second is logicboard replacement. Oh wait, third would be GPU replacement but you will have to find someone that does chip level repair and is familiar with ball grid array soldering (i think it takes a special machine).

The part in need of replacement is the GPU. I neglected to define that in my previous answer. The tried and true way to come to this conclusion is doing exactly as you did. plug computer to external display. If you get a picture it is related to data cable or LCD, if not it is GPU.
