Can I upgrade the CPU with a Haswell one with Integrated graphic?

Hi,

my mac is an iMac Mid 2010 i3 @ 3.06, with a successful hack to Its HD: I removed the DVD reader and I put an SSD and than make a fusion drive. This improved a lot the performance, but i started gaming quite often and the ATI GPU isn't so good... It has only 256MB of VRAM.

I asked for advices about GPU replacement, but new models won't fit in. So I realized: why not an integrated one as my MacBook?

There are available CPU with integrated graphics on the market? Are they on the same chip?

Where I can buy them? And the most important thing: will it work?

P.S.: please don't tell me to buy a gaming PC because it isn't a possible solution at the moment.

Sorry No you can't do either on either your iMac or MacBook.

iMac:

  • The Haswell chip uses a very different socket and support logic and can't be used. As to upgrading the logic board to a Haswell version that to is not possible.
  • Upgrading the graphics board that is possible (depending on what model you have). Here's the IFIXIT guide iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2389 GPU Card Replacement.

MacBook:

  • Again the Haswell chip can't be used in this system either. Unlike the desktop systems, the CPU's are directly soldered on to the logic board. So you can't remove it without very special equipment. Even then the pinouts of the mobile Haswell chip is very different and the support logic again can't support the Haswell architecture. The GPU logic is also directly soldered as well and again can't be swapped out.
  • Given the age of the MacBook I would strongly recommend looking at a newer MacBook Pro (new or used) that meet your needs
