The brush is functioning quite well except the battery is failing. Seems quite wrong to throw it away just for that. Is there any way of breaking into the case and replacing it with a new one? It came from Tchibo so I don't know the make.

My Braun Sonic powerbrushes use an AA size battery with spot-welded connections. I can't spot weld a battery, but you can get around that by cutting the wire to the old battery and using a replacement with tabs that allow a soldered connection. I don't recall why, but think my battery was embedded in such a way that you have to destroy part of the works to get lt out, so I had to buy a new brush. If you can get the battery out, replacement batteries, NiCad and NiMH, are readily available on the internet with tabs that allow a solder connection. Each one will cost around $6 with shipping. Then you need to do the soldering. There's a glue-like substance that works as a low load solder, but inside a toothbrush there's a lot of vibration and moisture and I'd think regular solder would be better.

Regretfully when its an enclosed unit there is no practical way to replace the battery. It is sure to be non-standard unit made just for that application and not available for purchase retail. You are thinking the good thought but in this case I fear caught in the disposable product paradigm. Ralph

The sonicares (I have repaired 2) have 2 AA size NiCds inside. They are replaceable- not officially, but if you open the case you can dig them out and replace them.

I agree with Jeffrey. I have just published a guide on how to open a Philips Sonicare toothbrush to repair the actuator. There you can see the format of the battery. I think it can be useful when replacing the battery, too.

Oral B battery is possible to replace for someone who's fairly practical, I've done several including for friends. Their supplied battery is pretty poor I think. There are some good tutorials on YouTube.

Not sure what brand you own, but Sonicare which I have is pretty clear that when the battery dies, they project 2 to 3 years, that you remove the battery for proper disposal and throw the unit away.

Hey, i am trying to do basically the same thing ,but on a phillips sonicare hx6930 and i can't find the + and - of the battery so i can unsolder it ,even though i saw a bunch of pictures explaining it, it seems like it's not where it should be?

My battery is welded on and won't come off. I only had it a month and it stopped working. This is my second one. Very disapponted.
Tried to replace the battery in my Sonicare with no success. The thing was not only built to be thrown away, but built so that you'd never be able to replace the battery without some serious professional soldering work.
A solution for those who are in the market is the iBrush. I just bought it and found it comes apart easily just using a philips and flathead screwdriver. Once you've disassembled it, the battery is easily accessible (and I presume replaceable, although I won't get to test this until 3-5 years from now).
As far as I'm aware, this is the only ultrasonic toothbrush on the market that allows for the possibility of battery replacement without major soldering efforts. On top of this, the brushing quality is tremendous, probably a bit better than my old Sonicare, and certainly better than the Oral-B model I've tried.

I logged onto this web site with a question about the battery in my Oral B. Somehow, everyone on this site is talking about the sonicare brush. This is not helping me at all.
