iPhone 3G WiFi chip failure after 18 months

WiFi stopped working three days ago after 18 months of use. Verified no router or software problems. Apple in-store "Genius" suggested to upgrade to a new phone. Online Apple Tech support indicated WiFi chip has failed and is not repairable after various tests.

Anyone know if it is possible to replace such a chip on the [I presume] motherboard? And who may be doing such repairs.

replacing the logic board is a very pricey issue.

afaik - reworking the wifi part should be possible - but not for everybody - maybe you should search a little bit for companies that do those kind of repair for living - i think that a repar is cheaper than an new logicboard

well I'm having same problem here:

WIFI chip died without any inappropriate usage.

Basically I know the chip is hard to get and hard to weld according to my geek friends

so I thought to myself:

if it's hard to weld, that means it's welded well

and if it's welded well, all we need to make the link between logic board and the chip back online is to add something on the back on the chip, so the chip can gain some physical pressure and then the link will be assured.

And THAT WORKED!!!

all I did was add on a thin plastic piece on the back on the chip (between the chip and the back shell to be exactly)

Hope this can solve your problem:)
