Is my network interface card broken?

our venerable G5 was relegated to circulating images of our office's projects on a nearby LCD display. It was grabbing images form a folder on our network, but recently has lost connection to the network reporting that the "network cable is unplugged". I know the cable and port are fine so I suspect a dead NIC. I bought a PCI NIC, but it can't connect either. Motherboard issue?

Thanks.

Macs, and most PCI cards don't play well together, with the exception of a few "Mac Compatible" and flashed cards, most PCI cards will not work. Have you tried a different cable, they do occasionally go bad. That would be your best bet.
