I have a 1998 furby and when I put in new batteries in it it won't start again even when I press the reset button!
I don't really want to take the fur off and touch the motor etc i was wondering if there was another way!
Can you please help me because I love my furby and I don't want it to die!

Try pressing Furbys reset buton located in its battery compartment on the side.

I have 2 furby,s & all I can tell you is if you have put new battery,s in .
And fallowed the insturctions to reset ( they must be all new battery,s (4 new). I say this because a furby for some reason take a bit of juice to start up. And one bad battery will drain the other 3.
If new battery,s and resetting has not worked you must operate on the furby .There are a few sites that explain how . They are all very simple to do. I was nervous to do mine due to the fact It was the first time I had ever handled mine. He had been in his packaging since 1998 .I had got another at a yard sale and wanted to see two interact.
I took my time and it took a total of 30-45 min taking my time from start to finish. So just take your time and be gentle the operation will be a success.

To fix the corrosion, get a liquid called rubbing alcohol and a q-tip.tip the q-tip in the a alcohol, and brush it on the corrosion

Clean the corrosion with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. Leave the battery's in overnight, it sometimes takes a while for furby to warm up. And try resting the furby by using a paperclip in the reset button.

For battery corrosion :
Depending on how bad the corrosion is . Take about 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda . Plus a drop or two of water & make a paste. Don't make it too thick or to thin. But thinner is easier to put on then thick. Take a Q-tip & rub it all over the inside of furby,s battery compartment. Rub it all over real good . Now let it dry. Now take a old tooth brush and brush the baking soda out. A little bit of residue left won't hurt . Just make sure that the little metal battery,s are residue free .Battery needs to have a good cotact. Now that should do the trick. Unless it went on to long then you might have to do Furby surgery to make sure that everyting is still all conected on the inside where the battery wires come out of the battery box. But try this first if it doesn't work get back with.

Will somone out there please help me ,my toy Furby I can hear the motor hum but nothing happens, I’m at my wits to get it going, I have tried some things, but maybe I missed something. Try resetting the furby and leaving batteries in it overnight. You could also try to move the ears, eyes, and beak manual this seems to help jumpstart them. If this doesnt work then the motor is grinding and is not moving, you'll have to take it apart and get the motors moving again. Here's a helpful video: https://youtu.be/fNaNM4_fKTo

Hi Olivia, I am the one that wrote the fixit link. I am more keen on the older furby,s . At some point the manufacturer changed them on the inside . I have 1 thats newer then a 98 . Not sure how much newer but newer. I had gotten it so mine would have a friend to talk to. Plus I wanted to see how they learn from each other. Not sure if thats true , had just heard it from someone. I had bought mine used at a yard sale . The person had no batteries said it worked . I figured even if it didn't , I had fixed mine I could this one. I wasn't so lucky. There alot different on the inside.
First thing I did was new good batteries like Durrcel or ones like them. Cheaper batteries don't seem to do well in furby,s. No luck, so them I tried some light weight grease. Something like the kind they use in a sewing machine. But unlike the older furby,s were you can sometimes gently wiggle the gears free the newer ones you cant. Or I should say I could not. Did not want to try to hard & break a tooth on a gear since they are plastic. I assume that maybe the manufacturer might have change them because customers did figure out how to fix them which cuts into sales . But I could be wrong . As far as were the batteries connect . Baking soda and vinegar and a tooth brush is the best thing if there is corrosion. And as far as using tin foil on the main board hopefully you didn't short anything out. Its very easy to do. Have you tried smelling the board to see if any thing smells burnt. Sometimes just because it looks fine doesn't mean it is . Sorry I couldn't help you more . Now i'm curious, what is different on the 1999 version that is different from the 1998 version? i know the second batch of furbies had a sensitive noise sensor
@A!R Mike The difference between the 1999 version and the 1998 version is that the 1999 version had more colorful fur designs as the 1998 version had more natural fur like browns/white/gray.
I think his circuit board was burnt out, and a gear under his faceplate was cracked and deteriorating, he also had heavy corrosion. I sadly couldn't revive him, but i did use his parts to fix another one of my furbys.

If you don’t want to take it apart you could try spinning the motor through its beak. Seen in photo:

furby has battery connectors that are probrably cracked or broken so youl have to replace em

Well actually none of these worked for mine but me and my brother have found out that some of the wires to this furby had been fried due to probably because of the way it was talking ( way too fast!) so what my brother and me have to do is also find the problem within the circuit board. I recommend looking for those type of furby fixing videos but to let u know most wont work.( i tried) but after all this im sure my furby will work again

Have you checked to make sure the batteries make proper contact? Check for corrosion on the battery connector.? Also, when was the last time Furby worked?

Yes they make proper contact and there's no corrosion on/in the battery compartment! The furby last worked properly about a week ago then I left it and turned it on yesterday and it was playing up!

I have quite a few of the older furbys that i simply havent been able to confirm/fix the power getting through to furby and powering it up either.....
But have you opened it up and given it a "push start"? If no look online for how to get a "comatose" or the "lucky penny shop" guy had a helpful video on there too

The exact same thing happened to me same year and everything I love my furby you see my grandfather gave it to me when I was really little and he just died 4 months ago please help it’s really special too me I need ideas to make it work again
