Metal tabs from keyboard came off.

I recently replaced the airport extreme card in my a1261, and as I was disassembling it, three small metal tabs came out. They're angled and are threaded, so I'm guessing that they're what hold the three angled Phillips screws in place. I've pieced them together and it seems they connect at the bottom of the keyboard, at the bottom of the trackpad area.

Now, the only problem is I can't figure out how they attach. I first thought they slid underneath the metal edge, but they don't fit underneath.

If anyone knows of a solution that would be great, otherwise I'm half-tempted to epoxy the stupid things in place.

Here's a photo of the tab (circled in red) and where I think it goes (yellow). http://imgur.com/Gycvk61

Honestly you're on the right path with the epoxy idea. I've had several of these break off over time and I've always glued them back into place with a strong superglue. I clean off the mounting areas, glue them in place, let them set and then reassemble your MacBook Pro, taking a little extra care to not over tighten those 3 screws in the battery bay.

You're also correct on the placement. I don't recall if the 17" MacBook Pro's have these at an angle or if they are level, but if they are at an angle they should angle down towards the trackpad. Basically the higher part of the angle will be towards the front of the top case and the lowest part will be towards the center of the trackpad.

Good luck!

They are at an angle. Also I use a very rough sandpaper to scratch the glued contact areas to help create a mechanical lock for the superglue.
