Broken HD thermal sensor connector

I broke one of the wires attached to the MacMini hard drive thermal sensor connector (see attached picture; also it's Step 9, Mac mini Model A1176 RAM Replacement).

Here's an actual photo of the issue:

What is best to do here ... repair it (best way???) or buy a new part? (where do I get it?)

Thanks,

Eric

Just found another solution; the connector-plug of the ipod 1st and 2nd generation battery fits into the connector on the hard drive thermal sensor connector in the mac mini A1176. Find an old battery for the old ipod, cut the plug off with the wires as long as possible, connect those wires with the torn-off cable, and that's it. 50% chance you get it right first time; switch cables if the fan keeps going full blast.

Maybe someone can say what the plug is, so you don't have to look for an old ipod battery....

You might be able to find someone to repair it for you (Soldering on Logic Boards is not really a DIY project). If there are no local computer/electronic shops in your area that will tackle this you'll have to replace the logic board, and take more care in it's reassembly.

It's strange that you suggest that I might "have to replace the logic board". Nothing on the logic board is damaged -- only the connector that plugs into the logic board. It would seem that at worst I would have to simply replace the part (HDD temp sensor w/cable).

From the photo I couldn't tell if you tore the connector off the board... I'm happy you didn't.

I know this is old but my solution may work for others.

What I ended up doing is striping the broken wire back a bit, twisting the exposed wires together, and inserting it into the hole it came out of on the connector. The wire will go in a few millimeters. After this I used superglue ( the kind that has a small jar with a brush) to secure the wire to the connector on the outside. I also used the super glue to cover up any exposed wire and on the other wire too to keep it from breaking in the future.

Just be sure to let it dry and not get an on the connector itself. It could keep it from plugging into the logic board.
