Have a MacBook Core Duo A1211 that will not power on. I have attempted to reset the SMC, but that was unsuccessful. Thepower supply has a light on the cord where it plugs into the laptop. That light would come on orange and sometimes flicker and then go out. The unit will not power on or charge the battery.

Sounds like your AC adapter has failed. First look at the tip to see if it is damaged. Look at the receptacle to see if debris has lodged in the port. I would recommend replacing the AC adapter after testing yours on another MacBook. Here's the one to get:
