Camera will not power on
Even after installing a fully-charged battery camera will not power on .
Clean battery
Remove the battery and gently wipe the electrical point of contact between the battery and the camera. This should be done with a microfiber cloth or any material that resembles the texture of very soft satin. Don't use any cleaning solutions while wiping. If any residue on the electrical point of contact is not removed, repeat this process with cleaning solution intended for electronic products.
Drained/bad battery
Before anything else, check the expiration date of the battery. Even rechargeable batteries have an expiration. When rechargeable batteries expire they should be disposed of properly. Your city should be able to assist you in properly disposing of batteries. There are also some hardware stores that offer battery disposal services for the general public.
If the camera cannot be turned on or the display does not light up, plug the camera into the AC adapter and let it charge. You might have a dead battery and may have to replace it.
Make sure the battery is neither too hot or too cold. If the battery is extremely hot or cold it will affect the camera's ability to power on. If the inside of the camera is too hot, leave the camera off and let cool down and try again at a later time.
Camera does not register on computer
"When you connect your camera to your computer via Micro-USB, it won't show up on the computer."
Bad Micro-USB port
A different way to address this issue is through forced-air. Since this is an electronic product, avoid letting any form of moisture come into contact with the camera; Moreover, the best way to blow air into this Micro-USB port would be through canned air. Make sure not to hold the can upside down or shake while in use in order to prevent the liquid used to make the compressed air from entering the Micro-USB port You can even use a compressor. You can blow air in the opening through your mouth, but you should use caution when doing so to avoid placing moisture in the Micro-USB port.
Bad Micro-USB cable
Use some of the same techniques described in the "clean battery" section above to clean your Micro-USB cable. Some of the points of contact on the Micro-USB cable can be wiped in a similar fashion. The larger end of the cable (USB end) has smooth points of contact located within the rectangular slot used to connect your cable to a computer, make sure this surface is free from any residue. The smaller (Micro end) should be cleaned with forced air, this should allow the cable to communicate with a computer once connected.
When the above steps do not solve your trouble, trying using a different Micro-USB, now readily available at most department stores, convenient stores, and gas stations.
Flash does not open
No matter what you do, you can't get your flash to open.
Clean hinges
First, check to make sure your camera is not set on "No flash" mode. It is common to forget that the camera is set to not use flash.
If your camera is set to use flash, but the flash still won't pop up or has a delayed pop-up, you may have dirty hinges. This issue is a frequent situation for avid photographers, but it is not out of the ordinary. Remember to use non-metal materials to clean the hinges. Many household items like cotton swabs or toothpicks will suffice.
Make sure the camera is off. After the camera is off, remove any residue that might be blocking the hinge/swivel area of the flash. Press the button to take a picture and see if the flash pops up like normal.
Next, try to take the toothpick or whatever tool you will be using and remove any hardened residue that might be preventing the flash from opening.
Unable to see through viewfinder or monitor
When looking through the viewfinder or monitor nothing is displayed.
Check to make sure the lens cap is not on
If the lens cap is still on, you will not be able to see anything. Simply remove the lens cap.
The camera is not powered on
First, make sure the camera is powered on. If the camera does not power on, make sure the battery has a charge, if not plug it into the AC adapter and let charge. After charging, try turning the camera on again.
Camera has entered standby mode
If the camera has been inactive for a period of time. it may have entered standby mode in order to save power. To take it out of standby mode, press the power switch or the button to take a picture.
The camera is plugged into a computer or television monitor
If the camera is plugged into the computer via a USB cable, you will not be able to view anything through the viewfinder or the monitor. Similarly, if the camera is plugged into a television monitor via HDMI cable, you will not be able to view anything through the viewfinder or monitor.
Camera is connected to wireless network
Disconnect the camera from the wifi network via the options menu.
Camera cannot focus
Image is consistently out of focus or blurry.
Subject is too close
If you are shooting a subject and it is consistently blurry, you may be too close to what you are too close to the image that you are trying to capture. Try shooting using the scene auto selector, close-up scene mode, or the macro close-up focus mode.
Camera is in the incorrect focus setting
If the setting you are using continues to make the image blurry, try another focus setting until the image becomes clear. If you continue to have trouble, consider turning on auto-focus in the setup auto menu. If the focus mode is on E that means that it is in the manual focus mode, to fix this turn the camera off and on again.

After I deleted all the photos (over 100) from the memory card and recharged it a warning comes up on the screen saying "This card cannot be used", What is the problem? I took over a hundred photos with it before but when adding "New import" photos it added the whole lot again?

I’m having the same issue, second time with Nikon. The first was a Coolpix P420 I think, and was still under warranty. Best Buy said it needed a new chip, which did seem to fix the problem after a trip back to the factory..
Now I have a Nikon Coolpix P600, doing the very same thing, and it’s out of warranty. Can anyone out there help me?

Coolpix P600 unable to update. Followed all the instructions insert the SD card, go to Firmware and nothing! Just gives the Firmware version and doesn’t activate the SD card

Hi, try to copy the new firmware WITH its folder named ‘firmware’. Leave the bin file in its folder and copy over this way to the root of the memory card. You should get now what you want.

My camera once turned on and I choose a setting (like Scene, effects, U,M, etc) it will then automatically just change the setting on me after a second or two. It's like it has a mind of it's own, lol. Any ideas or suggestions?

Since Jun 2017 to Mar 2024 looks like Nikon has not solve the problems ("what about when it won't lock on to a setting, bleep, bleep and you can't take a video or picture?") The Only way to use the camera is in the Manual Mode. Totally useless if you need quick point and shoot pics. Received it as a present 6 years ago and have not used it for the past 5 years. Still not working after updating firmware etc. Useless!
