== DVD player won't turn on == === Check Plug === * If your device is not working, make sure the device is plugged in. If the device is plugged in and still not working, unplug the device and see below for guides on fixing your DVD player. === Broken power supply === * If your power supply is broken, it could be due to a blown fuse. Refer to our guide [guide|6807|here] for a guide on replacing the power supply and the fuse. == Audio and video problems == === Menu items can't be selected === * Press the STOP button twice before selecting the system menu. Depending on the DVD, it is important to be aware that certain menu items will not always be selectable. * Your remote or the buttons on the player may not be working- see below for repair information. === Distorted or no picture === * Make sure the proper input/output cables are plugged into the correct ports- red cord into the red port, yellow cord into the yellow port, white cord into the white port. * Check your TV settings to ensure that it is on the proper mode. * Sometimes a small amount of distortion may appear due to the disc. This is not a problem with the player. This would likely be evidenced by very occasional skipping issues. * The DVD may be dirty or scratched- insert a clean DVD to make sure it isn't just the disc. * The disc reading lens may be dirty or damaged- see our repair guide [guide|6799|here]. Most likely the symptoms of this would be that the picture is skipping and stopping randomly. * The video output port may be damaged- see our repair guide [guide|6694|here]. If your picture is fuzzy/oddly distorted or the color is incorrect, this is most likely your problem. Note: to repair the output port you must remove the motherboard. * It is possible that your motherboard needs to be replaced, see our repair guide [guide|6694|here]. === Distorted or no sound === * Make sure the audio cables are plugged into the proper ports on the player and the TV. * Check your speakers to ensure functionality. You can do this by playing your TV normally. * Your audio output port may be damaged- see our repair guide [guide|6694|here]. Note: to repair the output port you must remove the motherboard. * It is possible that your motherboard needs to be replaced, see our repair guide [guide|6694|here]. == Disc issues == === Disc tray won't come out === * Physically make sure there is nothing in front of the disc tray preventing ejection. * Check that the player has power (see above). * The disc tray ejection motor may be damaged- see our repair guide [guide|6812|here]. === Disc can't play === * Eject the disc and make sure the disc label is facing up. * Check that the disc is defective by trying another disc. * Check that is the proper kind of disc (MP3, Picture Disk, Standard DVD) but not Blu-Ray or HDDVD. * Check the disc's region code on the back of the DVD case. It must be [1] or [All]. * If you were making a DVD or CD on your computer, make sure that the DVD-R or CD-R is finalized after being burnt. * If all of the above do not apply, there may be a lens issue- see our repair guide [guide|6799|here]. * It is possible that your motherboard needs to be replaced, see our repair guide [guide|6694|here]. === Player gives "No Disc" error with disc inserted === * Check that the disc is a format the DVD player can play (not Blu-Ray or HDDVD). * Make sure disc label is face up. * If all of the above do not apply, there may be a lens issue- see our repair guide [guide|6799|here]. == Remote doesn't work == * Check remote battery (replace if necessary). To make sure the remote is working, point it at a cell phone camera and press buttons on the remote. Through the cell phone camera you should see a light flashing from the infrared transmitter at the end of the remote. * Clean all buttons and remove dirt and grime. === Player doesn't respond to remote control === * Check the remote batteries. * Point the remote directly at the sensor at the front of the DVD player. * Get closer to the player. * Check remote functionality (see above). === Buttons don't work === * To completely reset the player, unplug the player from AC power for 5-10 seconds and plug back in to finish the reset. * If nothing works, there may be a wiring issue with the buttons on the player or possibly a bad motherboard. See our repair guide [guide|6694|here].
