Can I replace battery of my MacBookPro for the new 10-hour battery?

History

my mac is a 13-inch, Late 2009 MacBook Pro, model A1278, (2.53 GHz with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3). Current battery is: bq20z451 (A1278). Can I replace it with the 10-hours battery of the new aluminium now called Macbook pro 13. Is it possible?

thank you

Even if you could it would be pointless unless you had a bad batter already. It would probably get the same time as your battery originally did if you put in in your 2009 MacBook Pro. The reason the new MacBook Pros get 10-hour battery life is because they have a less power hungry CPU and integrated graphics. This allows for a lot less power to be used. If you took the same battery and put on in a 2012 MacBook Pro and one in a 2009, the 2009 model wouldn't get a 2012 model's battery time. I think that physically you can do it but I don't think that there has been a sizable increase, if any, in the watt-hour's of the new batteries.

Hope this Helps

The battery in the 2009 model has a 60Whr rating. The battery in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 model has a 63.5Whr rating. So theoretically there would be slight improvement to use the later battery. They are the same physical size and will operate interchangeably.

A factor of only a few minutes more. It's one thing to replace a dead battery it's another if you are replacing a still functional battery - Don't waste your money.

I agree with Dan, turn your brightness down 1 extra notch and you will get a better improvement than replacing your still functioning battery.
