I want to know if the button combinations are the same as the 3G model because I tried them and they won't work with the 5G iPod for the diagnostic mode.

Check this page.
Apparently it's "Menu" and "Select Center Button," whilst on the 3G it's "Menu" and "Play/Pause."

To open the diagnostic menu, reboot the iPod, and as its booting up, hold "Select" and "Previous"
