Why is my screen banding and flickering?
Screen doing this, no drop or anything that I know of.

Do you have a plastic snap on cover? Some of them tend to damage the display near the hinge area. Could you have sat something heavy on the system or when using a laptop bag placed something against the lid and something was pressed into the bad pressing the object into the lid?
As to the needed repair sadly this will require a new display assembly
Display Assembly:
- 661-17548, Space Gray
- 661-17549, Silver
Presently they are hard to come by on the used market TheBookYard UK - Display listing. But can also be now ordered directly from Apple Self Service Repair but it will be more expensive.
