Battery Performance and Optimization

Hello, my question is quit simple, I used my macbook alot and even my battery is on full, can I use it after 100% charged, does it effect my battery?.

Recently i asked Ai about it and found an anser:

When it comes to MacBook battery optimization, it is generally safe to keep your power adapter plugged in even when the battery is fully charged. Modern MacBooks use advanced battery management systems that prevent overcharging and automatically regulate the power flow to avoid strain on the battery. Keeping the adapter connected at 100% charge will typically not harm the battery as macOS manages charge levels to maintain battery health. However, if you frequently use your MacBook while plugged in, you may consider enabling "Optimized Battery Charging" in system settings. This feature helps to reduce battery aging by learning your usage habits and limiting the charge to levels that prolong battery lifespan.

Different generations have different BMC logic. The 2015 models use an older system from the 2016 models and even the 2020 Apple M Series are different again!

Lithium Ion Battery performance generically is dependent on the physical age of the battery and the number of cycles it has used.

The M Series systems allow you to maximize the batteries life by allowing you to limit the charge at 80% which is the ideal level.

I recommend you install a good battery monitoring App like CoconutBattery

In addition you may want to monitor your Apps power usage using Activity Monitor which is part of MacOS. You might also monitor your system thermals using this App TG Pro as a system running too hot will degrade the battery as well.

My question is actually not about draining, I am asking to continuously using it while connecting with adaptor.

@pixitech - Once the battery is charged it can't accept more power. The charging logic won't allow it.

But depending on what you are doing the power the system requires may require more than what the charger is able to supply as such the power will be augmented by the battery.

If you are asking is there any harm leaving the system plugged in (basically using the laptop as if it were a desktop tethered to AC power. The battery over time looses its ability to hold a charge in your series. The point I was making is the newer BMC logic in the M Series doesn't allow the charge to 100% only getting to 80% for this exact reason. You should let the battery drain down about a third once and awhile to keep the battery healthy.
