Can you replace just the back glass

Hi, the back glass on the pixel 8 pro seems to be two parts (top and bottom). Is it possible to replace just these without replacing the whole back case?

I broken my pixel 8 pro lower back glass and I want to know that if I replace the back glass from a normal (local ) repairing shop will my phone be water resistant as I talked in few service centers that said yes back glass has no work with ip rating and even if it is repaired

Repaird by any local shop it will still be water resistant and some service center say no it will not be water resistant

Hi Aaron,

Although the process is somewhat difficult, it is entirely possible to replace all of the glass without replacing the entire enclosure. Be aware that you need a LOT of patience, as it is a painstaking process to separate the glass from the back, and especially the charging coil which is glued to the rear glass.

I ran across a couple of videos that show a successful replacement, but be aware that they do caution that you are risking damaging the charging coil and if that happens you won't have any wireless charging. If that's a risk you're willing to take, here are the videos for the top and bottom glass that will show you how to get through it.

Thanks for the advice!

I'm a little hesitant to replace this because it's not that bad and I don't want to damage anything. From watching the videos do you know if using the heating pad would help loosen the adhesive more? It seems like they only use isopropyl alcohol in the video.

EDIT: honestly separating the back glass from the wireless charging and NFC looks exceptionally difficult I probably won't attempt this, thanks for the advice though!!

@aaronjosep70959 I have to agree, that big piece looks rather hairy. Heat pretty much always helps; in fact, on Apple phones they seem to lean toward a heat gun rather than the IPA this guy uses. Of course, heat guns come with their own set of risks.

If it's not all that bad you might keep an eye out for the cost of a full enclosure part to come down; at this point they're still fairly pricey.
