Can you post some pics of the shutter area so we can see things.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I regret it did not work. I have used the OM-System repair service which is really outstanding. My camera body was out of guarantee so I registered the camera body for a repair. The fixed price was for me (in the Netherlands) around 191 Euro, time and material. This included shipping costs to Portugal and back. Once the camera arrived in the repair center on a Monday, the rapaired camera was on Thursday morning (same week) back in my possession. OM-System cleaned the camera, loaded the latest firmware and replaced the shutter mechanism.

Really outstanding,

FYI I requested some quotes for the repair from some local shops they all estimated the repair between 250 and 350 Euro.

Anyway I hope this helps if all other methods do not result in the desired outcome.

Regards,

Wim

@customerca14414 - Well it does look like the shutter blades are not damaged which often happens. It looks like either shutter charging holding magnet slipped or the release magnet didn’t grab.

Basically there is a small motor which sets the shutter back to a charged state so the coils which are wrapped around the magnets release the spring stored kinetic energy to first let the first shutter go, then the second is release depending on needed exposure window. Just like a film camera does.

Carefully clean the magnets armatures and holding bars using 90% isopropyl alcohol, and some small puffs of cotton wrapped around tweezers just slightly dampened.

You should be able to charge the magnets and release them, just be gentle as you can bend things.

Dan,

Stumbled today over this side and saw you reacted to a similar problem I encountered with my Mark III. As I am a total novice could you explain where I can find the magnets armatures and holding bars?

Would really appreciate it.

Kind regards,

Wim

You will need to disassemble a good portion of the camera to gain access to them. Review this guide Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II Motherboard Replacement once you get to step 8 you will need to navigate thru the ribbon cables on the left to locate them.

I have purchased a non-working E-M10 and I think it has the same problem. I disassembled it and noticed that the shutter release motor is very weak and unable to configure the shutter back to its home position. I can see it try but it just doesn't have the torque. I can stop it completely with a toothpick, which I figure is not normal. My plan is to either buy a shutter assembly or shutter drive motor, both of which seem to be available on Aliexpress.
