Help! Connecting battery data ribbon to logic board

I replaced the battery on my MBP and it all went well EXCEPT that it seemed like there was no ZIF connector between the battery data cable and the board.

It might have detached and flown off but I can’t find it anywhere.

Can anybody please advise on how to connect the ribbon to the board now? Do I need to buy a ZIF connector somehow? Is there some way I can solder it?

Update (12/16/24)

Thanks so much for the guidance so far. I’m looking around for somebody who can fix these things in central London.

I found the ZIF. My goodness it is microscopic. I can’t tell what part is ZIF and what part is the old ribbon. Nightmare!

Do you know of anybody who can fix these things in London?

Does it look salvageable?

I don’t know of anyone in London, but there’s an awesome outfit called the TheBookYard in Liverpool. I’m sure they can help you either at the shop or post.

Ouch! Somehow you pulled the connector fully off the logic board, luckily the solder pads don’t appear damaged. You’ll need to replace the connector which will require a bit of skill. You’ll might want to seek out someone with a hot air soldering station and good soldering skills to help you.

Hey there Soho,

Yes, that ZIF connector is definitly missing, and will need to be replaced. Their are replacement ZIF connectors that you can get on sites like eBay, or you can try to salvage one from a damaged motherboard of the same model.

As for the process of replacing the connector, it is a bit of a more advanced soldering technique, but should be doable. I'll link a video to the process here that way you can get a feel for it.
