Some keyboard keys keep sticking

Block Image

My some of my MacBook air's keys stick and rebound slowly (mostly the right-shift key) and every time I have to open up the key and clean stuff out, no problem for about 3-4 months and repeat and every time there's this brown goo (not a lot keep in-mind) that causes the sticking, I don't even eat around this thing so idk where it comes from. is there a reason behind this or a permanent solution or is it another one of apple's things to get you to upgrade?

Is this a used system to you? It’s likely the previous owner has a liquid spill and the brown goo was collecting underneath the keys on top of the backlight plate and when you stowed your system the bottom became higher than the keys thus dripping onto them.

The only thing that has any liquid is the electrolytic within the battery cells. I would be surprised if that was the issue. You can check your batteries health using this gem of an App CoconutBattery post a snapshot here so we can see things as well.

No, this MacBook is mine (bought back in 2020) and I've never spilled anything onto it before, but ill download the app and send a screenshot later. Thanks for the answer.

@davidsun59096 - Well the battery appears healthy so I’m at a loss where the Brown goo came from. I can only think of a forgotten spill.

While not easy you could try replacing the key parts, the keycap is the hardest as you can damage it in the process of installing it. Here’s a good source TheBookYard UK 2020 13” MacBook Air keyboard parts click on the correct image to dig dow to the parts
