This Audi A6 model received a facelift in 2001 for both sedan and Avant versions. Why won't my brake lights turn off?

After a long trip aprox. 1100km I turned off my car and didn't touch it for a day, next evening as I was passing by I saw that my brake lights are on, like someone is pressing the brake, I checked that the pedal is maybe stuck or the switch is on but everything was as it should be. I disconnected the battery and left it to sit for a day.

Next day I connected the battery and everything was normal, I drove for maybe 150km and at the end of the drive everything was normal, next morning I checked again and they were again on.

Did anyone have the same problem or know how to fix this?

Hi Mihajlo,

A quick search at (car-box.info) shows the location of a 5amp fuse that controls the brake light switch (fuse14).

It would be a good place to start checking.

It’s located at the end of the drivers side dash (end cover).

You can also go to the site and use your vehicle details in the search field for much more information.
