Why does my whatsapp photos not show on my gallery anymore

So my whatsapp photos always popped up under the whatsapp images on my gallery aswell as videos under whatsapp videos. Now it doesn't show anymore under my gallery andnthe folder for whatsapp images is totally gone but the photos are still on my phone under my files if i really try and look for them
