I would like to change the unibody housing for my Mac mini M1 (Late 2020); spare part no. 923-04716 is available from the self-repair store.
I could currently get a defective Mac mini M2 from a friend for spare parts - is the unibody case of the M2 identical to the M1? Because the relevant spare part for the M2 can be found under the number 923-07534.
I would be pleased to receive an answer to my question.

Sorry, I doubt anyone has attempted this and as the M2 systems are mostly still under warranty and are holding up quite well! I don’t think anyone has even attempted or needed to open the system to make a detailed inspection and have an M1 to compare at the same time.
So are you a gambler? I would make a good inspection of the two cases side by side if it doesn’t matchup with your M1 then you could just order the correct part from Apple. Please let us know if you attempt this as I’m sure others may want to know too.

Hello,
So just by comparing the images of both housings and the motherboards, the layout should work fine. It doesn't seem that apple changed the layouts at all. I do think it is a bit weird that apple did change feel the need to designate it as a new part number.
If you can, and it doesn't break the bank, try and get the defective Mac mini from your friend and keep us updated here.
