an engine knock on my Chrysler

Modern cars have sensors specifically to detect engine knock, called. as you might expect, knock sensors. These sensors pick up the characteristic sound of engine knock and when the computer sees that, it adjusts the timing of the engine to reduce or eliminate the knock. So my first thought would be that your knock sensor has failed; if that's the case you should be getting that reported by the OBD-II diagnostics. Have you scanned the car for trouble codes? That should be your first step; here in the US most auto parts stores will hook up their scanner and give you a report for free.

So in this case the place to start will be to get the trouble codes from the engine computer. Anything serious enough to cause engine knock should definitely show up there, so if you get codes that will be the place to start. Go get your car scanned then come on back and edit your post to add any DTC(s) (Diagnostic Trouble Code) that are reported and we'll figure out what your next step should be.
