My mid-2012 MacBook Pro graphic glitches

Just today I was using my mid-2012 MacBook Pro and it started to have graphic glitches. When the computer been running for awhile it will have these box glitches all over the screen and the computer stops working. Is this a logicboard issue or does it need new thermal paste?

You’ll need to do a bit more diagnostics to help aim you to what’s needed. I would install a good thermal monitoring App like TG Pro it will allow you to see more clearly the CPUs & GPUs heat levels as well as the efficiency of the heat sink and heat extraction via the fan.

So when the glitches show up what was the systems thermals? If you boost the fans RPM does that help?

You might find the heat sink it’s self has failed (the coolant had leaked out) and/or the thermal paste needs to be refreshed.

The second test is when you encounter the glitches to plug in an external display to see if the image on it is stable. As sometimes the display unit fails.

On the TG app it say CPU core 1 is 113 F and core 2 is 109 F. Gpu is 120 F and heat pipe is 87 F and right heat sink is 100 F.

@nickwood16080 - Sadly I really need a snapshot of the Apps main window with all of the sensors visible. One snap when the glitch happens and one after the glitch subsides. Post both here so we can see.

I think I fix the problem I took the logicboard out and cleaned it there was a lot of dust inside. And added new thermal paste on to the CPU or GPU. Put it back together and now it wont power on with its own battery power it has to be plugged in to power it in. How do I fix that? I think it’s the keyboard ribbon cable that’s not plugged in that’s causing that problem.
