Hi @adarshmohanty

The ram is DDR3-1600

What version Win7 OS is installed, 32-bit or 64-bit?

If 32-bit it's no use installing more than 4GB of ram as any more than this won't be recognized by the OS and won't be used.

If 64-bit then the motherboard supports a maximum of 8GB of ram i.e. 2 x 4GB, so the ram module you selected should work with the existing ram module even though looking at the specifications for both modules they are slightly different as one has a latency of CL9 and the other is CL11, so both modules will work at the slower latency of CL11 not that I think that you will notice it.

The maintenance and service guide for the laptop doesn't state whether HP recommends that the latency value has to be the same for both modules or not, (see specifications on p.2) so you can only try and see what happens

OS: Windows 7 home basic

Model: HP Pavilion G6 Notebook PC 2011

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2350M CPU @ 2.30GHz, 2300 Mhz, 2 Core(s)

System type: 64 Bit

Installed Ram: 2 GB

Hope it helps u understand any better if wanted to add any more advice.

I checked in cmd, the max ram supported by my processor is 16GB. But I am not sure if the motherboard will allow that much. Also I found my system to be supporting max 1333 mhz ram but I couldn't find any good brand ddr3 1333 mhz ram to buy currently so had to look for a 1600 mhz type.

Btw which ram you mentioned as the slower one (Cl11), the existing or the selected new one. If the existing one is the slower one, will it be worth buying 2 new cl9(2x4Gb) of the selected all together and discard the existing old one or is it not worth the money to see any noticable speed change?

@adarshmohanty

Just because the CPU supports 16GB this doesn't mean that the chipset on the motherboard does or the BIOS either.

As can be seen in the manual I linked above for your model it only supports 8GB as I said.

This is also what is shown by this ram supplier for your model.

If your system only supports 1333MHz then installing 1600MHz won't hurt. It will just run at 1333MHz, however there may be problems if you have 1 module at 1333 and the other at 1600 just so you know that this may happen. Usually they have to be the same speed.

@jayeff I tried to find any help in Google searches and YouTube videos before getting any upgradation to my pc but they weren't as much easy to understand but you explained it in much simpler way. Thankyou very much!
