MacBook Pro 2017 A1708 black screen (not flexgate)

Hi everyone

Got weird issue with the device.
Computer turns on backlight is lit up but nothing posts on screen.
If I start computer holding "Option" I am prompted with the list to choose from bootable disks but If I choose any disk it goes straight to black screen and nothing else happens as long as I wait. I tried external OS, USB OS Installer, Internet recovery and so on nothing changes. I had donor computer so I took the SSD to donor computer and computer booted up fine to login screen. After installing SSD back to troubled device problem is the same BUT when I try to boot the donor computer now it won't boot up too and is with the same issue as the previous device. Looks like device is bricked or somehow the SSD bricked the donor computer too.
I tried Apple Configurator but if not mistaken A1708 were not able to boot to DFU only from 2018 MacBooks? Correct me if I am wrong. But I was unsuccessful to boot in DFU anyway.

Now I am at dead end and have no clue what to do. Tried SMC reset NVRAM and PRAM resets nothing helps on both devices.

Any ideas what to do ?

Forgot to mention I tried booting external drive without SSD installed just in case I thought that SSD might have some to do with booting but no luck.

Update (01/08/24)

@danj Booting with T I see this on the screen

Block Image

Also wondering how come this affected the donor computer which was working fine before just by swapping SSD

@maw38972 - Well that’s clearly a T-Con issue as during the boot up the scan rate changes from the default of the display.

Sadly you need a new display assembly for this system. As for the other I’m suspecting the version of macOS confused things this is where the systems firmware is still Sierra or older Vs High Sierra or newer.

I tried fully disconnecting the screen from motherboard and boot from external monitor. Problem is same nothing changed. (Donor computer was always working only from external monitor with disconnected screen from motherboard because LCD is busted) But I'll take your word for it and try out different fully working screen to see if there be any luck.

@maw38972 - SMC logic needs to see the display so disconnecting it won’t alter things.

@danj apparently issue was caused by a failing SSD. Swapping out SSD with fully working one and performing PRAM reset brought back system to life as well as donor system performing the same actions brought back to life too. Both systems seem to be working fine right now.

@maw38972 - That’s very odd! I think you’re telling me the OS video driver was corrupted! Typically OS files once’d installed onto the SSD rarely move (wear leveling) as they are in use, so they can’t be moved.
This is a very different medium than a HDD which can physically wear. Once written the constant reads don’t effect the files (cells) integrity.

Are you able to see the display image of the Thunderbolt icon via Target Disk Mode? Restart the system and press the T key. If you are then we know the issue is within the T-CON boards scan rate logic.

As far as DFU access that is via the T2 chip hence why the older 2016/17 models won’t work as they have the original T1 chip which has no accessible microcontroller within it.
