Liquid Damage - Interminent Shutdowns

Hello,

I have this macbook which suffered liquid damage in a corner/side. It is now stuck in a bootloop, it tries to turn on, you hear the chime, sometimes see the apple, then it goes off. If I hold the Option Key (to select the boot drive) it actually stays on at that screen. If I select something, it goes off again. Is this something potentially repairable / worth it?

Edit: Thanks Dan for replying, I'm adding pictures of the inside, and the screen just below.

Also I want to add that I haven't told the full story. I actually already opened the macbook to inspect it and I prematurely went ahead and took the time to clean some of the corrosion with Isopropyl alcohol. Then I let the laptop dry for +24 hours, next to a small dehumidifier. Afterwards I tried to start it up again but the original situation I described remains the same.

I circled in red the areas where I observed a bit of corrosion, though I regret not having taken a photo before, as I understand now it might be harder to isolate the problem. I wish I had thought of messaging the forum before doing anything!

Without opening and inspecting what is damaged it’s Any ones guess. Follow this guide 2020年款带四个Thunderbolt端口的13寸MacBook Pro 底壳更换 and take some clear pictures of what looks off posting them here for us to see.

Thank you Dan for replying. I updated my post with some photos as well as some needed details.

@mark64684 - I think you need to go a bit deeper here the black covered shielded area looks like it got the worse of it. You’ll need to peel back the tape cover with its metal shield to look inside the area, I think you’ll find more damage there. It still looks like the display is also damaged. No real way to fix this, time for a new display assembly.

Hi again, okay, I removed a couple pieces; a black cover, and unscrewed two little metal pieces where I think its the area you mentioned. Indeed I see some sticky stuff, looks like the juice soaked the foam pieces a bit. I'm not sure what to tackle next. Some components look like they are covered in a semi-transparent liquid, but is that normal? glue? But definitely the orange goo is from the liquid damage.

As for the display, yes sadly it needs a replacement. I can live with it if at least the laptop can function. So I'd like to first figure out whether that part can be fixed.

@mark64684 - I think the best thing here is to pull the logic board fully out as I’m sure there’s more of a mess on the other side. The large rectangle just below the cable connection is what you need to open up as the edges of the black covering is not good.

Be careful you haven’t bitten off more than you can handle. The cable and clamp look quite bad and I would replace the cable and the port assembly as well.

Yes, I am concerned about this being too much to handle. Considering the laptop still has the start up chime and only then stops and restarts, I was hoping it was an easily identifiable component that could be properly cleaned or easily repaired. But I guess that's rarely the case with liquid damage.

So yeah, I appreciate your input. I think having to pull out the entire logic board, and replace a few parts sounds like a lot of work. Possibly too much for just me. And I guess it's hard to tell whether it is worth repairing it, since it is impossible to know if it will fully work again without a thorough inspection?
