Is it a USB mouse or a PS/2 mouse?
If a USB mouse do other USB devices work in the USB port that the mouse is usually plugged into e.g. does a mobile phone show that it is charging when plugged into the port?
What operating system is installed in the desktop - Win7, Win8.1 Win10/11 etc?
