Hello! I still have this laptop and wanted to replace the disk hard drive with an internal SSD. How do I go about doing this and is there an SSD you would recommend?

Hi @charlesbolles

According to the specifications provided by this supplier the laptop has a 750GB sata HDD installed.

To replace it with an SSD you would need to source a 2.5" sata SSD and not an M.2 sata SSD. The difference between them is that M.2 is a form factor specification and it will not be compatible with the laptop.

Also I can't find any information as to what capacity storage drive the BIOS in the laptop supports so it may be prudent to limit it to no more than 2TB (TB = terabytes - 2TB = 2000GB)

Recommendations are usually too subjective and can lead to spam being posted in replies so the best that I can suggest is to search for a 2TB 2.5" sata SSD to find suppliers. Stick to the major brands e.g. Crucial, Kingston, Samsung etc.

Check if they also supply a 9.5mm spacer with the SSD as this is usually required to be placed under the thinner 7mm SSD so that it lines up correctly with the motherboard's sata port connector which was positioned to accommodate the thicker 16mm HDD. The more reputable suppliers also supply free cloning software (a URL link plus a password to download the software is supplied with the SSD) so that a seamless upgrade can be done.

Here's the ifixit CyberPowerPC Fangbook MS-1763 Hard Drive Replacement guide that will help.

There's also information online about how to clone a laptop HDD to SSD if you need it.

Hi Charles,

Ifixit has a guide on how to replace its Hard drive with an SSD. Here is a link to it: CyberPowerPC Fangbook MS-1763 Hard Drive Replacement

be sure to get a 2.5" SSD, as others will not be compatible

As for recommended SSD's, they all do a similar job. It is however hard to go wrong with brands like crucial or Samsung. You should however be fine going with a cheaper and slower drive considering the laptop is likely to be unable to take full advantage of the higher speeds offered by more expensive drives.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions : )
