Freezer temp displays wrong temp of -9 and does not move even at room

My refrigerator is displaying a temp of -9 and does not change when I let it warm up to room temperatures. There is certain hotspots in it and only meat would freeze. I changed the motherboard, two temp sensors, the defrost heater, the front interface panel. And still nothing! It does not make any sense to me that the control board is still getting the input of -9. This has to mean that something is telling it to display a -9 even tho it is at room temperature and I have replaced everything electrical. But there is not a single piece of information displaying what this means for a GE fridge.

Have you checked what the actual temperature is in the freezer using an appropriate thermometer?

Is the compressor running continually trying to drive down the temperature?

I realize that you replaced the sensors but was wondering if it was a wiring problem and this was affecting the resistance value of the freezer sensor as detected by the control board and therefore what freezer temp display output is shown.

Do you have a DMM (digital multimeter)?

If so, try the following:

Disconnect the power to the refrigerator (better if the compressor is not running at the time- but you may have no choice if it never stops, except perhaps for the defrost cycle to occur) and then disconnect the harness cable plug from the J1 connector on the control board.

Place the DMM leads - (Ohmmeter function) between the blue (pin 5) and the red/white (pin 3) wires on the J1 harness cable (not the board) and measure the resistance value.

You are directly measuring the freezer temp thermistor (sensor). The specs on the wiring diagram below, show that the resistance value of the freezer thermistor is 42.5K Ohms at 0°F so if the resistance is >42.5K Ohms it thinks that it is colder. If you measure OL or infinite Ohms it is open circuit between the control board and the thermistor and maybe that's why the temp indicates -9°F.

Note: Most refrigerator thermistors are of the NTC type (negative temperature co-eficient). This means as the temperature increases the resistance value of the thermistor decreases. So if the resistance increases it means that the temperature is getting colder. This is done at a known rate depending on the particular thermistor being used so they know what the temp is given the resistance value. Here's an example only (showing NTC temp versus /resistance values) that shows what I mean This chart is not for your thermistor but the principle is the same for all, only the resistance values may be different, depends on the model number of the thermistor

Perhaps there a loose connection somewhere between the sensor and the control board but all this is only a guess at this stage. The wiring diagram also show the harness cable run from the freezer sensor to the control board so maybe it passes through straight through connectors on the way

Here's the wiring diagram that may help. Note: FZ=freezer, FF =refrigerator

There are a few other owners of these GE refrigerators that have had wiring issues between the control board harness and the freezer thermistor. There doesn’t appear to be a way to replace internally, but running new wires from the proper pinouts does solve the issue for many.
