MacBook requires SMC reset if not plugged in for a few days

I have a 13” Retina Display Early 2015 MacBook Pro running MacOS Monterey. It saw fair usage in its early life then went complete unused for a couple years and then heavy usage within the last year or two. The battery failed and would not hold charge. I replaced the battery with an iFixIt battery and it was revived.

The current problem: if left unplugged for a few days the MacBook will not power on and will require a power cycle while connected to a charger or SMC reset. When it comes back it still has a reasonable battery charge (80-95%). All battery health indicators in coconut battery appear to be in line and the battery charges and retains charge as expected.

Any idea what’s going on here and if it’s indicative of a bigger problem? It is not the biggest deal to have to keep resetting it but I am not the primary user so I’d like to fix/prevent it if possible.

When did you replace the battery?

完成的

The battery was replaced in early august. Almost two months ago. The issue first happened about two or three weeks ago and has happened again yesterday.

Install this gem of an App! CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the Apps main window while it’s charging (Amber LED) post it here so we can see it, let’s see what that tells us.

@jtb76193 - Let’s give this a try. Carefully disconnect the battery again and with nothing connected press and hold the power button a good 15 secs. Then just plug in the MagSafe charger, the system should spontaneously restart. Let it fully boot up and do a proper shutdown, reconned the battery and let’s see if that solves the issue. This is a deeper way to reset SMC allowing any charge within the system to fully dissipate.

If that fails I think you need a new battery.
