Screen black after home repair

FWI: the screen worked before the home repair. The only problem was the software was corrupted and showed a little symbol, so I am pretty sure that means the screen was working.

After the home repair, I got the laptop to boot from a usb and installed macOS on it, the whole time the screen was completely black. I was able to see what I was doing because I plugged it into a monitor. I have seen videos about a black screen and most of them suggested broken software/drivers/etc. I am nearly positive it has nothing to do with this because I was able to use the monitor.

I am pretty sure I know what the problem is. There is a connector (wide and flat) that connects motherboard to display. This connector is not damaged (most likely), but it connects to a tiny chip. On this chip, there are screw holes so that you can attach a flat plate of metal to secure the connector. I think I put the wrong type of screw which was too long into one of the holes. This caused it to lift up slightly along with a little of the pcb (it looks like). This may have damaged some of the pcb.

Do you think this could be why my screen won’t work? If so, can I just replace this tiny chip instead of the whole screen. If so, what part could I use and where can I buy it? I don’t really want to spend ~$400 for the enitre screen.

Do you think an expert at an ifixit store would be required fix this without replacing the whole screen?

This could definitely be your issue. The "chip" you're referring to is just a mounting point for the bracket to secure to. It Is unlikely to have sustained any damage, but the circuit board is another matter.

The screws for the lower bracket for this display cable are longer than the screws for the upper bracket. If they were inadvertently used on the upper one instead (a common issue) this could cause damage to the circuit board. In fact, in board repair communities this is known as "Long Screw Damage." Original name, I know.

It's likely not the screw mount that's an issue here, but if the long screw damaged any electrical lines running underneath it, that might impact display function. It is possible to fix, but long screw damage can be pretty gnarly to repair and requires advanced skills even if you are adept at microsoldering. You would need to isolate all electrical lines that were damaged and repair them (probably with jumper wires). iFixit doesn't offer any repair services. The point is to learn how to fix it yourself! In this case, a new display might be your best option. Otherwise, ask in your area if any local repair shops can help.

I was thinking of this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/275414696455. Since I believe the connecting chip you can see at the bottom of the screen is the one I have damaged, do you know if I will have to buy the whole screen or is it possible to get just that little chip? Thanks
