iPhone 6s Home button re-inserting question?

we dropped our phone & it partially split open & the home button appeared to be dislodged. when I removed the 2 retaining screws & tried to pry the phone open, the home button fell out! You can see the button in my photos. My question(s)are: Does it look like the button can be re-inserted as is? And if "yes", which way, so that little black 'ribbon' on the back of the button is oriented correctly?

Update (07/28/23)

FWIW....that little black 'ribbon' thing is part of the home button connector thingy, so its shot, lol...I think the phone is beyond repair....screen is broken too, plus I think some other problems...

We dont need the latest, expensive iphone model, for our needs..

What models should I consider, as a 'reasonable upgrade' from iphone 6...?

Update (07/28/23)

thanks for the input people!

i think there's more damage to the phone. the screen us broken, and parts of the bottom of the screen are blacked out, Also the bottom area of the screen (keyboard etc) are unresponsive, and, although I thought I separated the screen & body carefully, I cannot them to snap tightly back together...🤦‍♂️

Please use this guide to help you add photos.

I would be happy to give you my best idea on if it can be reused as-is after seeing some photos.

As far as your second question, iPhone6s Home键组件更换 This guide shows high quality images of the home button and how it fits in. It should be good for the orientation of the ribbon cable and how to align it properly. (You can skip to step 25 for your needs.)

UPDATE: August 1st, 2023

After seeing your photos, the ribbon cable for the home button is torn. Meaning that home button will never work again. Please recycle it responsibly, and replacing the home button is fairly simple. However, please note that if you use Touch ID, it will never work again on any other home button. Home buttons are serialized and must be authorized for Apple to let them use new home buttons, and apple h̶a̶t̶e̶s̶ ̶i̶n̶d̶e̶p̶e̶n̶d̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶r̶e̶p̶a̶i̶r̶ is very dedicated to personal security, so they do not allow 3rd party home buttons to use Touch ID. Apple themselves do not service this phone anymore, but there is a chance that there are authorized Apple service providers in your area that can replace it and restore Touch ID functions, if that is important to you.

To answer your follow up question, which model to upgrade to, that is really a matter of personal taste. The most recent model to be made that has a physical home button, if that is important to you, is the iPhone SE 3 (2022), though it lacks many of the features of a more modern iPhone. Weigh the pros and cons of different models versus your budget and make the decision that is right for you.

Ultimately it's up to you as to whether it's time to replace your phone or not, but on the other hand if it's sufficient for your needs then it can almost certainly be repaired for under $20 USD, possibly even less. The thing is, parts for those older model phones are getting dirt cheap so with some shopping I'm pretty confident you can find a replacement screen, home button, adhesive and tools for that $20 I mentioned.

Of course all the guides you need are available right here on iFixit; Justin's already given you what you need since you have to remove the screen anyway in order to replace the home button.

The only thing you'll find is that you're going to lose your fingerprint / Touch ID function, as the button is paired to the phone's logic board and only Apple can redo that pairing. The only way to get the Touch ID restored is to pay Apple to replace the screen; it'll come with a home button so you'd kill two birds with one stone - but of course it's Apple so you're going to pay for it dearly.

Good luck; let us know what you decide!
