Screen replacement of Surface Pro 4 with a Surface Pro 5 screen

Receive surface 5 screen, received cable x00341z2yr to attach new screen to pro 4. I transferred the Surface 4 digitizer board to the new screen. Machine turns on ok and screen comes on fine. I still do not have screen touch or use of pen. I have ordered a new digitizer board and will try it for correction of touch screen. Other suggestions for repair of problem would be appreciated.

So, just to clarify, you’re replacing the screen of your Surface Pro 4 with a Surface Pro 5 screen?

Yes, I have a surface Pro 4 that the screen touch is not functional. In the past I have also attempted to fix the flickering problem with some success. I decided if screen touch caused replacement to be needed I would use the Pro 5 screen as suggested by other blogs.

I had the same problem after replacing the battery on my surface pro 4 tablet and destroying the original touchscreen, which was almost impossible to dismantle.

After an initial negative experience with the surface pro 4 replacement screen from ifixit (fortunately reimbursed), which caused the well-known flickering problem, I finally managed to replace it with a surface pro 5 screen, which is compatible.

I couldn't find it at ifixit but it's easily available on the big online shop ;o) ATTENTION: make sure that the latter is supplied with the adapter cable for the surface pro 4.

After that, I also encountered the problem of the non-functional touch screen. I'd taken the NTrig module from my old screen and stuck it back on with standard double-sided adhesive tape. But the touch function worked in a totally random way, if at all. After a lot of searching and trial and error, I found some information about grounding this famous NTrig module. To do this, you need to use a special adhesive that ensures electrical conductivity. But here again, I'm not sure I have the right explanation, so after several attempts, I finally found the solution that worked for me. It seems that the conductive adhesive should only be placed in a specific area (see the red circle in my attached photo), the yellow part is the standard double-sided adhesive.

In addition, you need to make sure that the standard adhesive isn't too thick, preventing the other from adhering properly and ensuring that the NTrig module is earthed.

Lastly, I also had to uninstall and let windows update reinstall the touchscreen module driver.

I hope this helps.

@davem52722

Brand: Laird

Ref: DT03B Double Sides Conductive Tape

I bought it from Mouser Electronics.

Here is the link for where I live (France):

https://www.mouser.fr/ProductDetail/739-...

And here, the link of manufacturer:

https://www.laird.com/products/enclosure...

So, I know it's a bit expensive to buy 20 metres of a product that you'll only use a few centimetres of, but I wanted to be sure I was getting a professional product given all the problems I'd had with the countless assemblies and disassemblies of this wretched computer.

The main thing is that it works now.

I hope it works for you too.
