Here's the Corolla maintenance schedule.
It shows that the brake fluid should be checked every 10,000Km (6,000 Miles) or every 6 months.
It should be replaced every 40,000Km (24,000 Miles) or every 24 months which ever comes soonest.

If you don't know when it was last done, or if it has been changed at all, then it may be worthwhile changing it now.
The brake fluid used is FMVSS No.116 DOT 3 or SAE J1703
