Possibly damaged screen and digitizer connectors when reassembling

Hi,

I changed my swollen battery and it all seemed ok. The screen was working fine at this point. I then detached the screen to place a new adhesive and when reassembling I may have misfitted the digitizer connector and damaged it. Now everything seems to work except for touch.

Is there any way of replacing the connectors/ribbons?

Thank you.

There may be ways to replace, but we’ll need to see what extent of the damage to know what’s possible.Add some pictures to your post if you can!

Hi Alisha,

Thank you for the quick response.

I'm attaching a couple of images but I'm not sure if they'll be very helpful.

The metal piece that we detach to disable the connectors, when reassembling it, I didn't notice it was misplaced, and applied pressure. It seems to me that the only connector that was affected was the upper one - not sure it's related to the touch function.

If you think it's useful I can disassemble it again and try to photograph the connectors, but they are so small that even with maximum zoom it's hard to figure out if something is wrong... at least to my eye...

Once again thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi Alisha,

Thank you for your quick reply.

When I was assembling it I didn't notice that the small metal piece that we have to open in order to remove the connectors was out of place and I applied pressure to close it and probably damaged the upper connector - which I suppose is the one related to the touch function.

If you think it's useful I can disassemble it again and take some photos, but the connectors are so small that even at maximum zoom it's not easy to spot what might be wrong.

Thank you once again for your help.

Again, everything seems to be working except the touch. The watch rings, I was able to erase it via icloud to remove the passcode, etc.

I don’t think you messed up part. The first version of the watch used these god awful connectors. Most of the time you do need to try again as the alignment can slip on you.

The display assembly would be the first part to try replacing, do take note the Apple Pay feature is part of the NFC chip which is mounted on the display so you will need to carefully remove it to mount to the new display.
