I dropped my iPhone like everyone out there. My power button and vibrator stopped working. Although my headphone jack, mute button, volume control all work fine.
I find it funny that both the power button and vibrator quit at the same time. The ribbon "looks" fine.
Should I just break down and replaced the ribbon?

As the control for both of those functions is on the same flex it makes sense to replace it. The ribbon is pretty slim and takes a few bends before reaching the connection. it's a bit of a pain to replace though. Is the bezel separated from the rear case? if it is it may just be that the power button is no longer making contact fully, I take it that you disconnected and reconnected the flex onto the motherboard?

When it stopped working there was a gap between the back housing and bezel.
I just replaced the glass, digitizer and back housing. There is still a gap from the bezel and new housing. I think of poor quality?
So yes I did disconnect the ribbon from the flex cable to the motherboard.
I'm going to take it apart again and file down some of the tabs on the new rear housing to see if it fits better.
I guess I can just order a new ribbon, but was trying to diagnose before spending money on stuff I don't need.

try loosening the screw near the "do not remove" sticker as it may be pressing on the motor for the vibrate, also check that the prongs on the motor are sitting "up" and making contact with the back of the motherboard.(They can get flattened easily in a transfer) Make sure the little metal cover for the motor is in the rear case properly, it has 2 very small tabs that sit into the rear case which you then screw down. As for the power button, try loosening the securing screws a little, overtightening can keep it always depressed hence it doesn't work. These annoying little foibles may fix the problem so you don't need new parts.
